Denosumab and romosozumab are the two types of antibody drugs used in the treatment of osteoporosis. Denosumab binds with a protein that involves in the breakdown of bones and helps in slowing down the process of bone breakdown. It can also help in improving bone density. This antibody-drug should be taken as an intravenous injection twice a year.

This is a new antibody drug that can help in increasing the formation of new bones in your body. The Food and Drug Administration has permitted the use of romosozumab in April 2019. The drug is intended for postmenopausal women who are at a higher risk of osteoporosis. This also includes women who have a history of fracture. Romosozumab is taken intravenously and consists of two injections taken every month for a year.


Selective estrogen receptor modulators, or SERMs, are hormone-related medications that can be used in osteoporosis treatment. SERMs can help in recreating estrogen’s bone-preserving effects. The most common SERM used in osteoporosis treatment is raloxifene.


This is a hormone secreted by your thyroid glands, which can help in regulating the calcium levels in your body. Calcium is a very essential mineral that helps in maintaining the strength and mineral density of your bones. Doctors often prescribe synthetic calcitonin for treating spinal osteoporosis in women who cannot use bisphosphonates.
